Steel center on the banks of the Bosna River

The cantonal capital is Zenica. The other town mentioned in the name, Doboj, comes from the part of the former municipality Doboj which belongs to this canton although most of Doboj belongs to another district in Republika Srpska.

Zenica is the fourth largest cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It sits on the banks of the river Bosna, surrounded by mountains and hills.

The Roman Municipum Bistua Nova was an important economic and military center for centuries.

Today, Zenica is trying to regain the economic influence it use to have before the war. It is home to the biggest steel mills in the Balkans.
