The District of West Backa covers an area of 2,420 km2 with the administrative seat in Sombor. It also covers the municipalities of Apatin, Odzaci and Kula.
As with the rest of Vojvodina, most of the land is arable, and the economy is mostly supported by farming and the food industry like the "Sunce" oil factory or the "Dukat" dairy. There is also a well known brewery, "Apatinska pivara", and the "Dunav" shipyard.
The Backa plain is a good place for living in an intercultural surrounding. In addition to all the neighboring nationalities in Ruski Krstur in the municipality of Kula, is the cultural center of the Rusyn ethnic minority in Serbia.
