The name Trebinje was mentioned as early as the 10th century. The town of Trebinje has an extraordinarily rich cultural heritage. It is, among others, the home town of poet Jovan Ducic who describes Trebinje in his poems. The city lies in the Trebesnjica river valley and there are several mills and bridges along the river including the historic Turkish Arskanagic bridge.
The city is the economic and cultural center of the region. It enjoys a very mild climate suitable for Mediterranean citrus and palm trees, which makes this area very attractive for tourists. The city is located only 20 km from the Adriatic sea and unofficially this is the most beautiful city in all Bosnia and Herzegovina.
