Prijedor is the third largest municipality of the Republika Srpska. It has a wide range of industries, services and educational institutions.
It sits on the rivers Sana and Gomjenica, and the hills of the expansive Kozara mountain.
In 1873, the first railroad in Bosnia and Herzegovina was built close to Prijedor connecting Dobrinja to Banja Luka. In 1916 the Ljubija ore mine opened, which represents the largest iron ore reserves in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Prijedor is a large service and industrial center with a developed financial sector.
