Doboj is a city and municipality in the Republika Srpska entity on the river Bosnia. It is the largest railway hub and one of the oldest cities in the country.
The name Bosnia comes from the river Bosnia, known from the Roman era under the name Bossina.
Right next to the confluence of the rivers Usora and Bosna, it used to be a Roman military camp from the 1st century AD.
The famous Doboj Fortress from the early 13th century overlooks the town and is Doboj’s major tourist attraction.
The railway gave Doboj industrial opportunities but many of the biggest factories in this region could not survive the transition from a state-controlled to a market economy.
The majority of Doboj’s industry is based on services with large recent investments in the electrical plant and oil refinery. This will likely increase railroad traffic.
