The Brcko district is an administrative unit in the northeastern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the seat of the district is the city of Brcko.
Brcko is on the river Sava. It is an important railway connection center between Croatia and the EU and other parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
It was an ancient Roman town named Saldae, while the name Brcko comes from the Turkish period after the name of the tributary Brka, which runs though the municipality.
Because of its strategic geographic position, Brcko has considerable agricultural and food industry, and also trade. It is the location of the largest trade fair in this area.
